Creating a semester

Settings → Add semester. A semester needs a name and a period — for example “Winter term 2026/27”, 1 Oct 2026 to 31 Mar 2027.

Active semesters appear together on the dashboard, in the calendar and in the course list — both subjects of a two-subject degree, say. The switch on a semester takes it out or puts it back.

Tapping a semester opens its page. There you change its name, period and lecture period and look after everything that belongs to the semester.

Semester dates and deadlines

Everything that belongs to the institution rather than a course: the welcome event as a date, exam registration and withdrawal or re-registration as a deadline.

A semester deadline has Due on, an optional time and, for the types Registration and Withdrawal, an optional opening date. So you enter the end of the registration or withdrawal period; details go into the name, such as “Exams” or “Seminars”. With an opening date the deadline appears under upcoming deadlines only three days before, and the calendar shows the time from opening to close as a band.

Tapping it opens the deadline like any other: set its state there, and Done takes it off the list.

Up to 6.10.0 these had a block of their own, “registration periods”. Existing periods became semester deadlines with the update: the end of the period is the due date, its start the opening date, and “registration and withdrawal” becomes two deadlines.

Breaks in term

Settings → open a semester → Breaks. Enter Christmas breaks, project weeks or blocks of public holidays here. Sessions falling inside such a period are dropped from every series automatically — you do not have to cancel them one by one.

One thing to know: only future sessions that you have not rated yet are removed. Sessions you already logged stay put; otherwise entering a break after the fact would cost you data. Delete the period again and the sessions come back. This applies to every semester, not just the one currently open. Opening a template also drops sessions that fall into a break of the target semester.

Changing one: tap a period to open it in the form below; the series are recalculated afterwards, just as when you add one.

In the calendar days off are hatched, and the name of the break sits in the all-day row. Sessions and deadlines may still fall inside – a submission over Christmas is perfectly normal.
