Syncing devices

If you use StudyNow on an iPad and an iPhone, bring both to the same state: Settings → Sync devices. Everything in all learning areas is synced – semesters and school halves, courses and subjects, sessions, tasks, deadlines, ratings, look-backs and weekly goals. Nothing is replaced: both states are merged. If the same thing was changed on both devices, the newer change wins. Settings such as language, the selected area or reminders stay per device.

Three ways – two of them work without iCloud, for school devices:

• Via iCloud. Switch it on and you are done: after a change each device puts its state in your iCloud storage (bundled after about ten seconds) and picks up the others’ – when you open the app and, while it is open, as soon as iCloud reports a new state. How fast iCloud transfers is up to Apple: usually seconds, sometimes minutes. Both devices need the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive. No StudyNow server is involved.
• Nearby. Directly from device to device via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth – no internet, no iCloud, no server. Tap Show code on one device, enter the six-digit code on the other and tap Connect. Only someone who sees the code can connect; the connection is encrypted. The first time, iOS asks whether StudyNow may use the local network.
  After that the two devices are paired: they find each other as soon as StudyNow is open on both, stay connected and send every change across after about three seconds – “Connected to iPhone” then appears under Paired devices. iOS does not allow this direct connection in the background or on a locked device; it continues the next time both are open. Unpair removes the pairing, the switch pauses it.
• By file. Share sync file, bring the file to the other device via AirDrop, Files or a computer and Open sync file there. Always works – even in the browser.

A new device asks “School or university?” on first launch. Below it is Already set up on another device? Take it over – that way it fetches everything from your other device instead of creating a second, empty area.

Good to know: Syncing does not replace a backup. “Reset everything” only empties this device – the data comes back from the other one at the next sync. If you share a device with others, better not sync: learning areas do not protect against others reading along.
