How the app is laid out

This and the following sections describe the university area.

There are five tabs at the bottom:

TabWhat for
StudyNowThe dashboard: what is on now, the ring tiles, sessions and deadlines
CalendarDay, week and month
CoursesAll courses of the semester with their sessions and deadlines
AchievementsMedals per semester
SettingsStudy (semesters, courses, import) and app (language, appearance, reminders, shake, data, legal)

Courses have had their own tab since 4.3. They used to live in the settings, on the assumption that they were pure master data. In use that turned out to be wrong: tutors, room changes and missing exam dates are things you touch in the middle of the semester, and the page was too well hidden there. The semester stays in the settings — that really is only touched at the start.

Back at the top left always takes you where you came from — from the calendar back to the same day, week or month, from the dashboard back to the dashboard.

Every entry in a list shows the icon of its type — lecture, exercise class, exam, problem sheet and so on. That way the lecture and the exercise class of the same course are easy to tell apart.

The app is light or dark like your device and switches with it. To keep it light or dark, use Settings → Appearance.

On the iPad and in a wide window

This applies to school and university alike.

On a tablet or in a wide browser window, navigation sits on the left instead of at the bottom. With enough room – an iPad in landscape, or a large iPad even in portrait – Today shows two columns: what to do on the left, the overview on the right. The calendar and timetable then use the full height, and the month view shows names inside the days.

With that much room, list and entry also sit side by side: subjects, courses, deadlines or tasks on the left, the chosen entry on the right. In Settings the sections are listed on the left; a tap jumps there, and a semester or half-year opens on the right. In the calendar, an iPad in landscape opens a session to the right of the week – the ✕ or Back closes it again. If you changed something on the right without saving, the app asks before you pick something else on the left.

With a keyboard – on an iPad with a Magic Keyboard or in the browser (Ctrl instead of ⌘ there):

ShortcutWhat it does
